About ToRead.me
ToRead.me is an attempt to concatenate three observations. First, the web is home to the largest collection of interesting reading material in history. Second, computers are famously lousy devices for contemplative reading, a problem e-readers are meant to solve. Third, while the act of reading is solitary, the act of figuring out what to read isn't, or, rather, shouldn't be.
ToRead.me provides a way to send reading material straight to other people's e-readers, and for other people to send reading material to yours. The goal is to create an experience few e-readers deliver today, namely pleasant surprises; the idea is that you will open your e-reader and discover interesting things to read sent to you by people who know you.
ToRead.me isn't yet another new social network. It relies on your own network of personal and professional relationships. ToRead.me users don't "friend" anyone, no one ever "follows" you. Users simply email or use their browser to share content directly with their friends and colleagues...no need to learn a whole new application or install client software on computing devices. ToRead.me's intent is to be as unobtrusive as possible so you can share reading material quickly and easily.
